Chinese dresses/Qipao/Cheongsam was originally developed in mid 17 th China for the Manchu Emperors wives and concubines during the Qing Dynasty. However the style proved so popular that it soon became wildly adopted by the rest of Chinese society. Qipao or Cheongsam was the Manchurian long dress, with a distinctive body-hugging style, a high collar, thigh-length slits at both sides and embroidered symbols. These characteristics compliment feminine body curves and give prominence to elegance, glamour and attraction. This is the reason why Qipao dresses remain popular today, and are becoming more and more fashionable internationally with the introduction of new designs and materials.
